Max Gest has been helping federal civilian employees win their workers’ compensation claims since 1991. With his assistance, many federal employees have been able to obtain acceptance of their claims, receive the medical care they need for work-related injuries and illnesses, and receive monetary benefits from the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP).
Mr. Gest is a nationally-recognized expert in the field of federal workers’ compensation law. For a number of years he was the chairman of the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs Litigation Group (OWCP-LG). The group has been renamed the FECA Law & Advocacy Group (FLAG). Mr. Gest continues as an active member of the group. Members of this group of attorneys and paralegals across the country represent claimants in regards to Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA) claims. Mr. Gest organized and acted as chairman of the June 2005 seminar of the group in Los Angeles. He also provided lectures at that seminar. The seminar was attended by members of the group. Also in attendance was Alec Koromilas, the former Chief Judge of the Employees’ Compensation Appeals Board (ECAB), who now serves as a regular ECAB judge, and Frank Faragasso, who was one of the most senior Managers at the San Francisco District Office of OWCP until his retirement several years ago.
Mr. Gest has written articles regarding FECA claims for CWCE Magazine, Federal Workers’ Compensation Connection, Valley Lawyer, and other publications. Mr. Gest has lectured for various groups across the United States and Canada, including the American Association for Justice, the Law Education Institute, the Professional Education Systems Institute, Lorman Education Services, the National Alliance of Postal and Federal Employees, the Occupational Medicine section of Kaiser Permanente Foundation, and the American Federation of Government Employees.
